Alternative processes can be described as:
camera-less photography
historical processes / 20th century processes
non-traditional or non-commercial photographic printing process
Most of these processes were invented over 100 years ago and were used by early photographers.
In this 4 week class, learn how to create photographic images using alternative creative processes. In this course, you will learn various processes such as cyanotype, lumen, phytogram, and chemigram to create unique works of art.
July 13th - August 3rd, 2025
Sundays, 10AM - 1PM
In this 4 week course we will cover the basics of “camera-less” photography. This is a hands on course where we will cover a new technique every week and you will take home anything you create during the class. This is an experimental process so the possibilities of what you can create are endless!
Week 1: Lumens
Week 2: Cyanotypes
Week 3: Phytograms
Week 4: Chemigrams
Prerequisites:
A basic understanding of photographic principles.
You have the option to bring your own digital negatives which we can help you with if you are interested in bringing your own. We will go over what materials to bring at the end of the first class, and we will go over materials to bring week to week.
